It’s not aligned geopolitically with any of the big superpowers. Amid the growing uproar, particularly on social media, surrounding Snowden’s warning, Anna Paulina Luna, a Republican U.S. Representative from Florida, weighed in, emphasizing the importance of privacy rights. Luna asserted, “If the government is conducting surveillance, it should only be done under a court-issued warrant. I will continue to advocate for the privacy rights of every American.”
Silkie Carlo, director of BigBrotherWatch, issued a caution regarding the proposed “secret government surveillance bill,” describing it as potentially morphing into “a horizon scandal on steroids.” Carlo contended that such legislation effectively coerces organizations into serving as extensions of the surveillance state, amplifying concerns about governmental overreach and erosion of privacy rights.
