Unveiling of Satoshi Nakamoto 'Legal Identity' Has a Major Plot Twist

A press release promising the unveiling of the legal identity of Satoshi Nakamoto sent shockwaves through the crypto world, but the event, held today in London, turned out to be a far cry from the anticipated revelation. Instead of a groundbreaking announcement, the event descended into a chaotic spectacle, leaving journalists and attendees questioning the legitimacy of the claims.

BBC News Cybercorrespondent Joe Tidy, who attended the event, chronicled the unfolding chaos on X, providing a firsthand account of the bizarre proceedings:

“I’m at a London event billed as the ‘unveiling of the true legal identity of Bitcoin inventor Satoshi Nakamoto’. An odd set up to the press conference as the organiser asked me to pay £500 to attend and appear on stage to ask questions of the billionaire mystery man.”

Tidy continued to document the event, highlighting the organizer’s questionable claims and the growing skepticism among attendees:

“Organiser Charles Anderson takes to the stage. Says he’s only had 2 hours sleep in 48 hrs since they announced this event. Been bombarded with calls from all over the world. He also claims to have invented ‘energy recovery systems’ in cars. And the show Britain’s Got Talent. Someone from the prestigious Front Line Club where this event is being held has interrupted to insist that Charles make it clear that this is not an affiliated or endorsed event for the club. A reporter has walked out.”

The “reveal” itself was met with skepticism from the start. Stephen Mollah, a man who has previously claimed to be Satoshi Nakamoto, took to the stage, promising to provide evidence. However, the event was plagued by technical difficulties, forcing Mollah to present his “proof” offline.

Promising proof but facing tech issues, Mollah shifted to an offline presentation and launched into his background as an “economic and monetary scientist.” According to Tidy, Mollah said he “tried to out himself as Satoshi in 2016” but was “stopped.” Journalists pressed for evidence, growing “restless and increasingly rude” as Mollah showed “easy to fake screenshots.” When asked about moving Genesis bitcoins to prove his identity, Mollah vaguely promised to do so “in the next few months.”

BitMex Research, also in attendance, shared its own observations on X, echoing the growing skepticism: “We are wasting our time at this ridiculous event also. This ‘faketoshi’ is claiming he designed the twitter logo in 2007. This faketoshi said he invented: the eurobond, The twitter logo, & Bitcoin.Faketoshi now says that the ‘Satoshi Times’ from 2009 did not exist. Nobody can find a copy of that paper he claims…This faketoshi now claims he invented the ChatGPT protocol . This is the comedy style we are used to from Stephen.”

The event, which lasted nearly an hour, ended with a sense of disappointment and frustration. Many attendees, including Tidy, left the event early, disillusioned by the lack of credible evidence and the overall chaotic nature of the proceedings.

The “reveal” has left the crypto community questioning the motives behind the event and the credibility of Mollah’s claims. While the mystery of Satoshi Nakamoto’s true identity remains unsolved, this event has served as a stark reminder of the dangers of misinformation and the need for critical thinking in the dynamic world of crypto.
