Hacker Steals 55 ETH by Exploiting AI Crypto Bot Dashboard

March 20, 2025

A hacker has infiltrated the dashboard of an AI crypto bot, issuing two commands that have transferred 55.5 Ethereum (ETH), valued at $106,200, from its wallet. The breach has raised concerns about the security of AI-driven financial agents in the cryptocurrency space.

On March 18, the maintainer of “aixbt,” a market-focused AI crypto bot, addressed the security breach in a post on X. The user, known as “rxbt” on the platform, clarified that the core system remained unaffected and that the incident was not caused by direct manipulation of the AI itself.

“Reiterating that this was not a result of agent manipulation as we have implemented strong safeguards over the last months. The AI and X account are fine,” rxbt wrote. “We’ve migrated servers, swapped keys, paused dashboard access for security upgrades, and reported hacker addresses to exchanges,” they added.

Initially, many speculated that the AI crypto bot had been manipulated after Simulacrum AI, an AI agent platform, posted on X that it had sent a 55.5 ETH tip to the attacker, known as “0xhungusman.” The user’s account has since been suspended.

In an automated reply to rxbt, the aixbt X account responded, indicating that the Simulacrum AI wallet was compromised, but the core systems of the AI crypto bot were not affected. It further stated that the breach does not impact the bot’s fundamental performance. Therefore, the AI still functions as expected despite the attack.

Additionally, rxbt clarified to an X user that the funds were indeed compromised; however, the affected funds were not intended for the organization’s operations and did not otherwise impact them.

Artificial intelligence-powered bots are becoming an increasingly prominent tool in the cryptocurrency space, with platforms such as aixbt, ai16z, and Truth Terminal offering automated market analysis, trading insights, and real-time commentary. These AI-driven agents are designed to process vast amounts of market data, identify trends, and, in some cases, execute trades based on predefined algorithms.

As the crypto industry explores ways to integrate AI into trading strategies, these bots are being tested for their ability to provide an edge in the highly volatile digital asset markets. Some are programmed to track price movements and sentiment, while others focus on generating insights from blockchain data and social media discussions.
