Elon Musk, owner of X, has confirmed that the platform was hit by a βmassive cyberattack,β causing widespread disruptions and leaving thousands of users unable to access the site for about eight hours.
After services were restored, Musk immediately addressed the X cyberattack in a post to his followers. βThere was (still is) an attack against X. We get attacked every day, but this was done with a lot of resources. Either a large, coordinated group and/or a country is involved,β Musk wrote.Β
Musk acknowledged the X cyberattack in response to a social media post outlining a pattern of hits targeting his business ventures. βFirst, protests against DOGE. Then, Tesla stores were attacked. Now, X is down. I wouldnβt rule out the possibility that this downtime is the result of an attack on X, β a user by the name of Doge Designer wrote.Β
According to NBC News, Tesla stores and vehicles have been targeted in at least 10 incidents of vandalism, potentially linked to Muskβs association with President Donald Trumpβs administration.

These incidents come in the wake of President Trump appointing Musk to lead the Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE), tasking him with cutting wasteful government spending.
Muskβs leadership of DOGE has sparked controversy, drawing both criticism and support. In response to recent directives issued by DOGE, protests have erupted, with demonstrators specifically condemning Muskβs approach to federal workforce oversight.
One of the most contentious moves involved a mass email directive requiring federal employees to submit weekly reports detailing their accomplishments. Musk warned that failure to comply would be interpreted as a voluntary resignation β a stance that has fueled backlash from government workers and advocacy groups.

Despite the criticism, Musk garnered praise from supporters who commend his efforts to streamline government operations. He asserted that DOGE is on track to achieve $1 trillion in taxpayer savings, positioning the initiative as a major cost-cutting measure.
While Musk suggested that a coordinated effort may be behind the X cyberattack and related incidents, no definitive evidence has emerged to support the claim.
