Ethereum co-founder Vitalik Buterin has proposed that Argentina host Devconnect, a key global event for Ethereum developers. Argentine President Javier Milei responded with enthusiastic support for the idea.
Buterin has long expressed admiration for Argentina’s crypto community, describing the nation’s digital landscape as a prime example of blockchain’s practical, real-world applications.
“Argentina’s Ethereum community is full of amazing builders, who have already contributed some of the most important software in the Ethereum ecosystem,” he wrote in an X post.
Buterin also called the country a prime example of cryptocurrency’s practical applications. He argues that, for many users, crypto offers more than speculative investment — it provides a genuine pathway to economic freedom.
“The energy and determination to build on Argentina’s current momentum and use crypto and other new technologies to build a prosperous 21st century society is real. The recent news should be taken not as a reason to give up, but rather as an example of why education is so important,” Buterin continued, sharing his thoughts on the recent LIBRA debacle.
In a follow up post, he proposed that the next Devconnect event be hosted in Argentina, emphasizing criteria such as the strength of the local community, accessibility, and the potential for enduring impact. “We would love to engage more,” Buterin wrote, tagging President Milei in his post.
The Argentinian President responded enthusiastically, thanking Buterin for his kind words about Argentine talent. “It would be an honour for Argentina to host Devconnect. I agree that it would be a great opportunity for our country,” he wrote.

It would be inaccurate to imply that Buterin endorses either Milei or the LIBRA release. In recent comments, he condemned TRUMP and various political meme coins, calling them “vehicles for unlimited political bribery.”
Leaked texts from Hayden Davis further bolster these claims by hinting at similar bribery practices, lending credence to Buterin’s earlier criticisms.
Even in the wake of the LIBRA fallout, Buterin remains undeterred in his optimism for Argentina’s broader crypto ecosystem.
