Hayden Davis, co-creator of the LIBRA meme coin and CEO of Kelsier Ventures, has claimed that he paid Karina Milei — sister of Argentine President Javier Milei — to sway the president’s support before the token’s launch.
According to CoinDesk, months before the token’s collapse, Davis sent text messages claiming he had “control” over Milei, boasting that he had bought access to the Argentine President’s trusted circle.
“I control that n****,” Davis wrote. “I send $$ to his sister and he signs whatever I say and does what I want,” he added.
The report also noted that Michael Padovano, a spokesperson for Davis, asserted that the LIBRA co-creator does not recall sending the message and that his phone records show no evidence of it.
“Recent media reports claiming I paid President Javier Milei or his sister, Karina Milei, to launch the Libra memecoin are completely false. I never made any payments to them, nor did they request any. Their only concern was ensuring proceeds from Libra would benefit Argentina’s people and economy,” the statement continued.
The statement further contended that the disclosure of these messages was merely a politically driven effort to undermine President Milei.
Coinbase’s report added that it remains uncertain whether any funds were exchanged between Davis and those close to Milei before LIBRA’s launch.
Karina Milei holds a significant position in her brother’s administration as Argentina’s General Secretariat of the Presidency, a role carrying ministerial-level responsibilities.
Following an endorsement from President Milei on February 14, the LIBRA token — operating on the Solana blockchain — soared to a market cap of $4.5 billion. However, within hours, its value nosedived by over 90%, with reports indicating that insiders extracted more than $107 million in liquidity. President Milei is now currently facing criminal fraud charges and mounting impeachment calls.
Davis acknowledged accumulating $100 million in profits from the token launch, expressing uncertainty over how to manage the proceeds after reports emerged that Milei’s team had abandoned the project.
Moreover, blockchain analysts have linked Davis to several other unsuccessful meme coin projects, including the MELANIA token, which was associated with US First Lady Melania Trump.
