Musk Demands Engelmayer Impeachment After DOGE Blocked from Treasury

February 10, 2025

Elon Musk, leader of the Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE), has demanded the impeachment of New York federal Judge Paul Engelmayer following a ruling that limits Musk and his team’s access to critical U.S. Treasury Department payment systems and confidential data.

On Sunday, Musk took to his social network, X, to accuse Judge Engelmayer of being a “corrupt judge” who is shielding corruption. “He needs to be impeached NOW!” Musk added.

According to CNBC, President Donald Trump assigned Musk and his team the mission to identify methods of significantly reduce the federal budget, downsize the federal workforce, and eliminate numerous federal agencies and regulations.

So far, Musk’s DOGE team has focused on agencies that account for a small fraction of the federal budget, such as the U.S. Agency for International Development (USAID). DOGE’s efforts have included attempting to access the U.S. Department of Treasury’s payment system to halt the flow of funds to the agency, as reported by the Associated Press.

On February 8, Judge Engelmayer issued a ruling stating that government officials and special employees who are not directly affiliated with the Treasury should be restricted from accessing systems containing sensitive data.

In his ruling, he explained that the decision was driven by the dual concerns of the “disclosure of sensitive and confidential information” and the “heightened risk that the systems in question will be more vulnerable than before to hacking,” which led him to side with the plaintiffs.

Judge Engelmayer’s decision followed a lawsuit filed by 19 Democratic state attorneys general, who expressed concerns about Musk and his team’s potential access to confidential information. They argued that President Trump had failed to “faithfully execute the laws enacted by Congress” by granting Musk and his team unprecedented access to the Treasury’s computer systems and sensitive taxpayer data.

In a separate X post, Musk further expressed his frustration with the ruling, suggesting that it was part of a larger effort to shield “scammers” from scrutiny.

“How on Earth are we supposed to stop fraud and waste of taxpayer money without looking at how money is spent?” Musk wrote.

Following the court’s ruling, Musk shared a post from a follower on X, who suggested that DOGE should defy the court’s order.
