Pump.fun Under Fire as Livestreams are Exploited for Disturbing Content

The decentralized platform Pump.fun, which allows users to create Solana-based memecoins, is facing significant backlash after reports emerged that some users had misused its livestream feature to broadcast harmful and violent acts.

Pump.fun, a platform that allows users to promote their memecoins via livestream, has come under fire for its lack of effective content moderation. Critics from within the cryptocurrency community are calling for stricter oversight of the livestream function or its potential removal altogether.

Crypto Community Calls Out Pump.fun

On November 25, X user Beau, a Pudgy Penguins safety project manager, raised concerns over a user in a Pump.fun live stream that was threatening self-harm if their coin did not reach a specific market capitalization.

Beau expressed strong disapproval of the livestream on the platform, describing it as “absolutely heinous,” and called for the content to be removed.

In addition, the user criticized the livestream feature itself, urging for its shutdown and stating, “This is out of control.”

Unfortunately, this report of harmful acts and violence being displayed on a Pump.fun livestream is not the first of its kind. Several users on X have reported alarming incidents on Pump.fun, where individuals were seen making disturbing threats and engaging in harmful actions during livestreams tied to their memecoin promotions.

One community member flagged a livestream where an individual was seen firing a gun out of a window each time their coin pumped. Some X users reported a user who allegedly threatened to harm their family if their token did not hit a specific price target. Another user made a chilling claim about committing violence at a school if their coin failed to increase in value.

A user on X urged Pump.fun to temporarily disable its livestream feature until effective moderation tools can be implemented to prevent misuse. The user went on to further criticize the platform’s livestream feature, referring to it as a “pipeline of felonies.”

Pump.fun Responds to Backlash, Insists on Moderation of Content

In response to the recent criticism, Alon, the pseudonymous leader of Pump.fun responded to the comments concerning the material being allowed on the platform. Alon addressed the community’s concerns, emphasizing that the platform has taken steps to moderate content effectively while defending its current moderation strategies.

“I admit that our moderation isn’t perfect, so if you’re aware of a coin where moderation isn’t enforced, please report it in our support channels immediately,” Alon wrote in his post.

Moreover, the platform has not yet clarified whether it plans to introduce additional safeguards or make adjustments to its livestream feature to address community concerns.
