Dong Nguyen, the Vietnamese game developer known for creating the viral mobile game “Flappy Bird,” has confirmed that he is not involved in the upcoming re-release of the game.
In an X post, Nguyen clarified his lack of involvement with the game’s relaunch and emphasized that he does not support cryptocurrency.
No, I have no related with their game. I did not sell anything.

I also don't support crypto.
This was the game developer’s first post on X since 2017. He distanced himself from the re-release and the associated use of cryptocurrency, which some reports suggest may be tied to the new version.
Rise of the Flappy Bird Foundation
A group calling themselves the “Flappy Bird Foundation Group” claims to have acquired the rights to Flappy Bird from Gametech, LLC — a company with no connection to Nguyen. The group plans to re-launch the game on iOS and Android in 2025, according to The Verge.
Flappy Bird, originally taken down in 2014 after skyrocketing to fame, spawned numerous clones as app stores struggled to keep up with demand. The new version, according to the game’s website, will feature updated characters like Peng, a plump penguin, and Tekno, a futuristic robot, as well as new game modes and multiplayer challenges.
However, the website also features a page promoting $Flap, a possible crypto token linked to Solana, raising concerns among fans.
On the other hand, the founder Nguyen’s clarification post was met with mixed reactions. Some users said they understood things weren’t in the right place when they revealed “predecessor” without actually naming the person.
Knew something was off when they said ‘working with their predecessor” without mentioning you by name

Others noted that Flappy Bird was the “clearest crypto scam.” They even doubted if it was AI that made the game.
Others voiced frustration over the platform’s handling of the situation, urging players not to fall for misleading marketing tactics.
As a game, users note that Flappy Bird is quite difficult to play. Its difficulty lies in its simple yet challenging mechanics. It requires its players to have precise timing and coordination to navigate the bird through the narrow gaps between pipes. The speed of the game also gradually increases, making it more challenging as players progress. Players can improve at the game through patience and practice, requiring them to focus on the timing and keep the birds at the right height so they can pass through the pipes easily.
