Thailand Police Hunt Chinese Suspects in $2M Crypto Home Robbery

Police in Pathum Thani are searching for four Chinese nationals who allegedly broke into a luxury house in Muang district and forced a Chinese businessman to transfer $2 million (approximately 70 million baht) in cryptocurrency. According to a local media report, the incident occurred around 2 a.m. on Wednesday at a residence in Ban Mai subdistrict.

The victim, identified as 35-year-old Ke Jibao, reported that he and his wife were asleep when the suspects entered their bedroom. The intruders, wearing balaclavas and armed with guns and knives, tied up Mr. Ke, his wife, and a maid. The robbers then demanded Mr. Ke contact a relative in China and arrange the digital currency transfer. After confirming the transfer, the suspects took the house’s security camera servers and fled using Mr. Ke’s black Toyota Alphard.

The stolen vehicle was discovered abandoned near a Liap Khlong Prapa Road power plant at approximately 1:30 p.m. on Wednesday. Authorities transported the vehicle to the Police Forensic Science Centre 1 for further examination. Mr. Ke sustained a minor knife wound on his wrist, while another resident, 26-year-old Chen Mingfa, received a facial injury after being struck with a gun. Both were treated for their injuries.

Investigators believe the robbery was meticulously planned, as the suspects reportedly entered the housing estate on foot to avoid security checks that would have required presenting identification. Pol Col Narong Iamrahong, the Pak Khlong Rangsit police station chief, is leading the investigation. Officers are reviewing CCTV footage from nearby locations to track the suspects’ movements and are interviewing the victims and neighbors for further information.

The investigation is focused on identifying the suspects and understanding how they obtained details about Mr. Ke’s relative in China. Police have not yet determined the motive behind the robbery or whether the suspects had any prior connection to the victim.
