Riri, whose return on the second day yielded a coveted “T-shirt signed by Shy” which is destined to become a cherished family heirloom, unveiled the raw emotions that surged through him as he stood on the same ground with the enigmatic leader for the first time and had the privilege to talk to him.
“My first impression is that he is humble. I got the impression that he was not trying to be bossy, but was very attentive to those around him,” Riri said. “When he got out of the car, he bowed deeply to me, a Japanese, and shook my hand stiffly. I felt he was a very serious person to deal with. I was also impressed that he asked me if ‘Thank you’ was correct in Japanese, ARIGATO. I was impressed that he asked me, and I felt his intention to express his gratitude in Japanese as much as possible. I felt very happy and proud,” he continued.
Kusama’s approachability and warmth were evident throughout the encounter, based on Riri’s observation. “There were several times when they were talking to ShibArmy while laughing and giggling,” the Japanese Shib Army shared. He also narrated how the Shiba Inu lead developer’s dedication to his community was on full display during the meet-and-greet where he patiently engaged with each member of the community, taking the time to listen to their stories and concerns.
“People who wanted to communicate with Shytoshi stood in line and he talked with each person. The time was from 5 minutes to 10 minutes at the most. There were times when he would end the conversation if it got too long, out of concern for the people behind him. I think he was very considerate of others,” Riri added.
Riri was particularly moved by Kusama’s passion for the Shiba Inu project and his unwavering commitment to the Shib Army. “His passion for the community is the care with which he responds to each person. I could sense their enthusiasm for the community as they listened, read letters, shared their own telegrams, and interacted with each other until they felt comfortable. They also trusted SHIBARMY very much and left the management of the booth to us, the volunteers,” Riri shared.
During the interview, The Shib Daily asked Riri if there was anything unexpected or surprising about his interaction with Kusama. He replied, “What was unexpected was that he was very frank in his responses. He didn’t seem uncomfortable when asked for autographs or photos (even though we couldn’t see his face), and he bowed deeply to everyone.”
When asked about the message he believed Kusama wanted to convey to the Shib Army, Riri’s response was simple and quick. “Shytoshi is shrouded in secrecy, but I believe he came to assure us that he will never betray the Shib Army. Additionally, he wants to spread awareness of SHIB to those who are unfamiliar with it. I think he appeared to raise awareness and engage in public relations activities”
Riri’s impression suggests that Shytoshi’s appearance was a deliberate move to reassure the Shib Army of his unwavering commitment and to further solidify the project’s presence on the global stage. It underscored the leader’s dedication to transparency, community engagement, and the continued growth of the Shiba Inu ecosystem.
Reflecting on his experience, Riri shared, “This experience has reaffirmed my belief in Shytoshi’s unwavering commitment to the Shib Army and his humble, earnest approach to leading the project. I was deeply impressed by his lack of arrogance and his willingness to listen to the opinions of others. I am more determined than ever to continue supporting this project.”
Riri’s enthusiasm for the future of Shiba Inu is palpable. “I am particularly keen on leveraging Shibarium for service development in Japan and integrating it into my own business endeavors. I hope to see a dedicated Japanese team for the SHIB project, and I am eager to collaborate and contribute to its continued growth.”
