Vitalik Buterin’s Shibarium Snub: Shiba Inu Community Asks, ‘Wen Us?’

April 8, 2024

The Shiba Inu community is urging Ethereum founder Vitalik Buterin to acknowledge Shibarium as a key Ethereum layer-2 network. Despite Shibarium’s low fees and growing prominence, it was conspicuously absent from a list of layer-2 networks recognized by Buterin during a recent presentation on Ethereum’s Dencun hard fork.

In a light-hearted response, Ragnar, a notable Shib ecosystem team member and community figure, asked Buterin when the Ethereum team plans to include Shibarium on the list. However, Buterin has yet to respond, leaving the Shiba Inu community wondering, “Wen Shibarium @VitalikButerin??”

This omission is not the first time Buterin has underestimated Shiba Inu. In 2021, he received half of Shiba Inu’s circulating supply as a donation. Initially, he burned most of it and gave the rest to charity, expecting the meme coin to crash like other meme coins. Despite his initial skepticism, Buterin has since recognized Shiba Inu’s potential.

The Shiba Inu community’s demand for recognition highlights the growing importance of layer-2 networks in the Ethereum ecosystem. As Ethereum continues to evolve, the inclusion of Shibarium could further enhance the network’s capabilities and reduce gas fees for users. In the meantime, the community remains vocal in their quest for recognition, reminding Buterin and the Ethereum team that Shibarium is indeed part of the Ethereum chain.
